You’ve lost 10 stone? You’re having a laugh...

There’s no excuse for the Monday blues next week, because Hemel Hempstead Old Town Hall’s monthly comedy club is in session.

The Monday night Screaming Blue Murder gig – only £8, or £6 with a Dacorum Card – is compered by Bennett Arron and features two top-class comedy talents.

James Dowdeswell is known for combining deft stand-up with daft stories and in recent months he’s been seen on shows as diverse as Russell Howard’s Good News and Celebrity Deal Or No Deal.

He’s performed all over the world and his solo show Urban Wurzel was hailed as a hit at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe.

And physics graduate Helen Arney is one-third of science comedy troupe Festival of the Spoken Nerd which has sold out West End theatres and toured all over the UK.

Helen also co-presents user-generated science show You Have Been Warned on the Discovery Channel.

Book online at or call 01442 228091.

The comedy doesn’t stop there at the High Street venue – master of the topical comic rock song Mitch Benn is heading Hemel Hempstead’s way with his Reduced Circumstances show next Saturday, March 2.

In the past Mitch has been a real heavyweight – but he’s shed 10 stone and his new show is all about being a shrinking man in a shrinking world. Tickets are £12, £10 concessions.
