JOIN Imran Yusef at the Old Town Hall Theatre in Hemel as he kicks off his debut tour of the UK.
Renowned for his optimism-packed, super-high energy performances, he’s gone from relatively unknown performer to one of the UK’s most inspirational comedians in record time.
Fast and furious but charmingly endearing too, his is a unique voice on the comedy circuit.
His apparently light-hearted satire frequently masks hard-hitting topical commentary on contemporary issues such as racism, sexism and religion.
Born in Mombasa in Kenya, Imran was raised in the UK with a brief stint at school in the States.
He’s travelled extensively, taking in Israel and Palestine, and Jordan and Saudi Arabia during the Lebanon Crisis in 2006. His work is inspired by this rich multi-cultural background.
Imran originally planned to become a video games designer but after working for some of the UK’s top companies his creative aspirations finally gravitated towards the world of stand-up comedy.
And following a period of clinical depression at 25, he set out to reclaim his life and career through unwavering self-belief, ambition and hard work.
Last year Imran presented his debut solo show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The show was part of the Laughing Horse Free Festival and it was Imran’s intention to develop his craft and material at the Fringe while also keeping under the radar of the UK comedy industry and press.
But word got out and within a week he’d gained the first of a collection of five star reviews which led to him being nominated for Best Newcomer in the Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Award 2010 – the first performer from the Free Festival to be nominated in the history of the awards.
He went on to perform in over 106 shows during August – all of them on an empty stomach as he was fasting between sunrise and sunset in observation of Ramadan.
He’s also appeared in Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Road Show.
An Audience with Imran Yusuf is at the Old Town Hall Theatre in Hemel on Friday, April 1, 8pm.
