Auditions galore – but just pick the right one!

There’s a busy weekend of auditions and workshops in prospect in Tring this weekend – but anyone planning to try out for one of two shows will be advised to double check what they might be letting themselves in for.

On the one hand, Tring Festival Company’s youth group is putting together a production of evergreen musical Joseph And The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.

But the company’s adult wing is also gearing up for a show later this year, and their choice is The Full Monty, a stage version of the hit film which famously focussed on a band of redundant Sheffield steelworkers trying to forge a new career in the world of male striptease.

There shouldn’t be too much confusion, though – the youth group is hosting auditions in the town’s Red Cross Hall from 3pm to 7pm on Sunday, while the grown-ups are hosting a workshop at the Court Theatre from 2pm, with auditions to follow next month.

Joseph director Ian Gower, who is planning a group trip to see a professional performance of the musical at Aylesbury’s Waterside Theatre, says no formal singing training or experience is necessary if you want to get involved.

And dancers with formal training are as welcome as those who want to learn.

Rehearsals will be held every Sunday from the end of April through to show week in September. To find out more email

The Full Monty, which will be staged in October, will be directed by George Riddell with Emma Brown as vocal coach. To find out more about the roles on offer, take a look at the ‘auditions’ section of the Court Theatre website at
