Classical ballet is in the spotlight for the next ‘as live’ screening of highbrow treats at Hemel Hempstead’s Empire multiplex cinema.

A Royal Opera House production of Sleeping Beauty, a perfect marriage of Marius Petipa’s choreography and Tchaikovsky’s music, is on offer next Wednesday, March 19.

There’s more ballet on the bill on Monday, April 28 with The Winter’s Tale, based on Shakespeare’s play and later that week, on Thursday, May 1, the bard features again with a National Theatre production of King Lear directed by Sam Mendes.

Empire marketing director Jon Nutton said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to continue our Empire Arts series.

“Given the success and popularity to date, it is evident that there is an increasing appetite for alternative content with our customers.

“The future of cinema is becoming more diversified and we’re pleased to offer Empire Arts to our customers as part of this movement.”
