There’s been a welcome welter of ‘house full’ notices posted at the Old Town Hall in recent weeks, so if you don’t want to miss out on the choice dates you need to get in early

Comedy dates featuring high profile stars – Steve Punt and Hugh Dennis are at the Hemel Hempstead venue tonight, but all the tickets went within hours – and family shows have both been big draws.

Now the High Street arts and culture base has announced details of its spring season, and tickets go on sale at noon on Friday.

The second phase of a refurbishment project at the historic venue is now getting started, and will run until May.

That means that the new gallery and cafe bar will have to shut up shop for the duration, but the refit will see the return of the popular Cellar Club for the first time in 12 years.

Before then there’s a varied programme of events on offer.

There will be folk and blues music evenings with award winning artists Jackie Oates and the Young’uns, sax legend Snake Davis and a special acoustic showcase compered by popular local performer Daria Kulesh.

On the comedy front it’s funny women to the fore – firm favourites Susan Calman and Jo Caulfield are both booked in.

So is shaggy haired shaggy dog story expert Tom Wrigglesworth, and the Screaming Blue Murder comedy club will be doing their bit to dispel the winter chills as well.

For the romantics, Valentine’s Day will feature a screening of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany’s, and recent big screen hits like Captain Philips and Philomena will also be screened at family-friendly prices.

On the family front, there’s a varied programme of performances created with little ones in mind to enjoy.

You can book tickets on 01442 228091 or online at oldtownhall.co.uk, and that’s the address to use if you want to sign up to the mailing list and be kept in the picture about forthcoming shows.
