Winning TV’s Opportunity Knocks isn’t a very street cred way for a jazz musician to get his big break, but that was how the 14-year-old Bruce Adams first demonstrated his remarkable ability as a trumpet player.

The son of a showbiz family paid his dues in dance halls theatre pits, and cruise liners and he’ll be at the Berkhamsted Jazz Club session on Saturday night, as part of a sextet that includes sax player Karen Sharp and leading trombone player Gordon Campbell.

Also taking to the stand will be Brian Dee on piano, Leighton Buzzard-based Arnie Somogyi on bass and Clark Tracey on drums. It’s a line-up that combines the talents of some of the most experienced jazz musicians in the country with stars of the next generation, and Saturday’s performance is a mouthwatering prospect.

Door open at 7.15pm for an 8pm start, and tickets are £10 for members and Dacorum Card holders and £13 for visitors and guests. Call 01442 824173. (Monday to Friday 9am to 6pm) to book.
