Dacorum Borough Council has three free pairs of Chilfest tickets to give to whoever takes the best selfie photo in front of one of the area’s landmarks.

The popular music festival is being held at Pendley Meadow, Tring, from Friday, July 4, to Sunday, July 6

The give-away is part of the authority’s drive to boost tourism.

Selfies - where someone takes a photo of themselves and, sometimes, friends - rose to prominence recently when lots of celebrities started taking them.

American chat show host Ellen DeGeneres famously took one of herself with an A-list group of celebrities including Brad Pitt, Kevin Spacey and Julia Roberts at this year’s Oscars.

The word ‘selfie’ was also recently named Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year 2013.

Dacorum’s tourism and marketing manager Susan Lea said: “There are so many gorgeous places in Dacorum – from areas of outstanding natural beauty to world class sports facilities, as well as historic locations and great attractions to visit and enjoy.

“We want local people to get behind our passion for the area by tweeting us their selfies alongside Dacorum’s gems.”

Entrants should send their photos to @DacorumLNF on social networking website Twitter.

The photos will be used to help promote Dacorum and show what makes the area such a great place to live, work, and enjoy.

A judging panel of council representatives will select the winners on Wednesday, June 18.

The authority is sponsoring Chilfest as part of the ‘Dacorum Look no further’ campaign that is helping to promote the area.

The closing date to enter the competition is Tuesday, June 17.
