THE Northchurch first XI have seured promotion back into Division Two of the Herts League after an eight-wicket win over North Enfield.
Darren James took his 50th wicket for the side en route to 5-56, and he was assisted well by Tom Garraway – who took 4-46 – and Jamie Eccles (1-32).
Once the seventh North Enfield wicket fell, promotion was guaranteed for Northwood, who had headed into the final game 24 points ahead of title rivals Eversholt.
It then took just 28 overs for Northchurch to wrap up their ninth league win of the season as they were led home by skipper Mark Hobley who finished on 80 not out, reaching his own milestone of 1000 first XI runs in the process.
The second XI, meanwhile, also capped off a good season by beating Tewin by 59 runs to secure a twelfth-placed finish in Division Seven.
A knock of 59 from opener Andy Meager and another league 50 for Glenn Randall (53 not out and 600 League runs in the process) helped Northchurch to 202-8 from their 53 overs.
All five Northchurch bowlers then took wickets, as Randall (4-25), Joe Selfe (3-11) Oli Johnson (1-40), Ali Bremnath (1-23) and Khalid Ahmed (1-33) ensured that Tewin were eventually dismissed for 143.
