Formula 1 racer Mark Webber will be putting aside his early season trials and tribulations with Red Bull to officially open a new sports facility in his home village Aston Clinton on Saturday.

Webber is giving up some of his free time during a break before the Spanish Grand Prix to open the re-built floodlit tennis courts and new netball facility at Aston Park Tennis Club.

Aston’s own fundraising efforts were boosted by an award from Sport England’s Inspired Facility Olympics Legacy Fund as well as grants from Aston Clinton Parish Council and Aylesbury Vale’s Community Chest Fund.

Chairman, Barbara Wilkinson said: “We’re absolutely delighted that Mark has agreed to perform the opening for us. As a Bucks ambassador and a keen sports enthusiast he has supported our efforts from the beginning.”

The opening will start at 11am where the Aussie will play in a doubles match with one of the club’s first team players before taking on some of Aston’s youngsters in ‘fun tournaments’.

Members of the public are welcome to attend and try out the new courts.
