Hemel Hempstead’s gymnastics superstar Max Whitlock has been nominated for BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2015.
The 22-year-old enjoyed another stellar year, capped off by becoming first man to win a gold for Great Britain at the World Gymnastics Championships as he pipped GB team-mate Louis Smith by 0.1 point on the pommel horse in Glasgow.
He had won his second silver medal of the championships earlier on Saturday on the floor, and recovered from missing out on an all-around medal where he fell at the start of the high bar routine.
It has been a phonenix-like return to the summit for Max, who had been hit by glandular fever at the start of the year – an illness which prevented him from defending his all-round title at the British Gymnastics Championships.
Max will now turn his attention towards next year’s Olympic Games in Rio.
Before then, Max will be hoping for victory at the SPOTY awards ceremony on Sunday, December 20 at the SSE Arena Belfast.
You can vote by phone or online during the programme, which will be screened on BBC One.
