Little Hay’s Winter League came to an end on Sunday – with the balmy playing conditions making a nice change to the rain and wind which had caused the cancellation of two out of the 10 rounds of the competition.

The leading pair by three points entering the final round were Jim Wallace and Chris Miles, but they were eventually pipped to the title.

They were overtaken by a fine effort from Chris Venner and Kirk House who finished six strokes ahead with 262 points for the tournament.

Joining Wallace and Miles on 256 points were the pairs of Alan Freeman and Jim Morris, and Dave Smith and Paul Williams.

Meanwhile, the improving weather led to some very good scores in the par-72 Senior Men’s March Medal.

Tomy Hodgson was top of the field of 38 competitors with a score of 65, one shot clear of second-placed John Ridgewell.

However, as a result of winter handicap adjustments, Ridgewell narrowly beat Hodson for the day’s top prize.

Chris Jarman and Ron Gooodfellow both shot 67 to finish in joint-third place
