TringRugby 40 Hertford 0
TringRugby ended the season on a high as they thrashed Hertford to lift the Hertfordshire Presidents Cup.
Despite the torrential rain causing a number of matches to be cancelled, the decision was taken for the match to go ahead, allowing for a rematch between the National 3 side Tring and National 2 outfit Hertford.
And Tring got revenge for last year’s defeat as they ran out deserved winners to take the trophy.
The Tring side dominated the first half, scoring four unanswered tries – with two for Tom Newton and one apiece for William Mateai and club captain Jonny Morgan.
The stand-out try in the first half was a team effort, with good interchange between the forwards and backs allowing Morgan to finished off the move.
Hertford caused problems for Tring in the scrum and in some direct forward play, but despite the difficult playing conditions, Tring were able to stick to their passing game.
They were looking dangerous, especially with forceful ball carries from forwards Harry Bloomfield and Marlen Walker, and backs Nathan Lambden and Mateai.
Tring were expecting a Hertford response in the second half, but another very good team try finished off by Mateai, as well as a penalty try, sealed the match for the Dacorum side.
Hertford dominated possession for most of the remainder of the match but the Tring defence held out well to enable Morgan to lift the trophy.
The win capped off a very successful season for the club, who finished seventh in National 3 South East – their best ever league position
And in a bid to build on their performance this year, the club are set to hold trials in July to bolster their squad..
