The Little Hay ladies have made a very solid start in the Pearson Trophy – a tournament for teams of eight from clubs in Hertfordshire, Kent, Middlesex and Surrey.

They recorded a superb 7-0 win in their first match against South Herts Golf Club as Pauline Manning, Chris Marsden, Clare Stammeijer, Linda Reeve, Dorcas Kindinger, Linda Cusick and Carol Kent did the damage.

And they followed that up by beating Potters Bar 5-2 as Manning, Stammeijer, Reeve, Kindinger, Cusick, Jacky Pearson and Caroline Banks impressed again.

In other action, the ladies continued their defence of the Mary Forster Bowl, a national tournament for teams of three ladies from public golf courses. The team of Kindinger, Manning and Stammeijer were top of their group of four with 94 Stableford points, ahead of Easthamstead who scored 90.

Finally, the team of Elaine Meagher, Manning, Reeve, Stammeijer and Marsden beat 23 men’s teams to win the Mill Green Winter Series. They were the only ladies’ team in the event, which was played over three rounds.

Meanwhile, Little Hay’s Winter League has reached a critical stage, despite losing two rounds to adverse weather.

A total of 17 pairs have played seven rounds which has led to an exciting finish – with six pairs still in with a real chance of winning.

Favourites are Jim Wallace and Chris Miles on 256 points, closely followed by Alan Freeman and Jim Morriss, and Dave Smith and Paul Williams, with both pairs on 253 points.

Kirk House and Chris Venner are a point further back on 252, while Hee Young and Steve Crowhurst, and Chris Dorsett and John Leahy, are also in with a chance on 247 points.
