Swimmers search for centenary donations

Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club has launched a fundraising appeal to mark its centenary year.

With only one paid member of staff – head Coach Alan Doyle – Hemel Hempstead SC relies on a team of volunteers to run the club and manage events.

The club celebrates its centenary in July and is launching the HHSC 100th Birthday Fundraising Appeal to help raise money for new equipment.

Through donations and grant funding, the club was able to buy an electronic scoreboard and starter last year, as well as seven new Olympic-sized lane ropes.

Club members have raised more than £2,000 already, but they are now asking for support as they look to build for the future.

The club is looking for donations to go towards the purchase of six new starting blocks – costing around £12,000 – as well as the 100 Years Yearbook, the visit of a celebrity swimmer at the 100th Annual Birthday Open in October, and the funding of two £100 prizes for the fastest swimmers in the Birthday Open Skins competition.

Other ways in which businesses and individuals can help the club are by donating £100 and joining the 100 Club roll of honour, donating raffle prizes, or advertising in programmes.
