Kart king Josh Price hit top form and zoomed to victory at the Senior Rotax International Open in Zuera, Spain
Not yet 16 years of age and racing against older, seasoned rivals, Josh was virtually unbeatable around the superb 1,700 metre track.
Timed qualifying on Friday saw Josh on top by 0.052 seconds ahead of second place and this guaranteed him pole position for each of his three heats.
Josh’s form was truly devastating and he won the first heat in style, coming home 0.416s in front.
Heat 2 was a repeat performance – Josh coming home 0.368s ahead – while heat 3 again saw Josh drive impeccably.
With some drivers behind him challenging each other for the minor positions, Josh was able to draw away from his rivals and crossed the line 2.960s ahead.
As the pre-final got under way, Josh lost the lead before the first bend before being involved in a collision that dropped him back to 16th place.
However, driving superbly and showing his usual gutsy determination, Josh managed to finish in 10th place – later to be given the number nine slot because of a driving penalty imposed on one of his rivals.
In Sunday afternoon’s final, Josh was determined to do his best and hoped to finish in the first two, thus enabling him to win a pass into the World Finals that will be held in Valencia, Spain.
Starting in ninth place, Josh got off to a brilliant start and, halfway around the first lap, he had overtaken seven rivals and found himself in second place.
Josh’s overtaking and his racing lines were impeccable. The lead changed a few times before Josh made a move that took him into the lead and he steadily drew away to finish 2.399s ahead of the second-placed driver and thus claim the Senior Rotax International crown.
The talented teen thanked Cavendish School for allowing him the time off to compete, and is encouraging any potential sponsors to get in touch.
