The Rugby Football League and Sky Sports have launched an exciting new initiative concerning school rugby league over the next seven years.
Sky Try Rugby League is a multi-million pound nationwide programme that will empower the Hemel Stags community team to deliver new opportunities within primary and secondary schools.
Each primary school is eligible to receive curriculum time coaching in tag rugby league followed by a participation festival at Pennine Way, the home of Hemel Stags.
To build on secondary school rugby league activity in Dacorum, there will be a Sky Try League launched in Spring 2016 where a series of 9-a-side festivals will take place to provide regular competition opportunities.
Hemel Stags community manager Mike Stewart is currently working within the school networks to further define the implications of Sky Try Rugby League for each specific school and their pupils.
He said: “The effect of a sustainable investment of such magnitude from Sky Sports can only be positive for the sport of rugby league, Hemel Stags and the borough of Dacorum.”
As a result of the Sky Try Rugby League programmes it is hoped that more children will express a wish to join the Hemel Stags club which has been based in the town for over 30 years.
The season runs from February to August for juniors aged 5-17. All junior membership is completely free. Anyone interested should contact the club on 01442 219799 or email Mike Stewart direct at email@example.com
