New academy will help young swimmers in Dacorum to make a splash

Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club and Sportspace have joined forces to launch the Hemel Hempstead Aquaspace Swimming Academy.

The Academy aims to increase swimming opportunities within Dacorum and help nurture local talent, with a view to producing future Olympians.

The Academy will give talented young swimmers, who are part of the Sportspace Learn to Swim program, the chance to join HHSC and take part in competitive swimming.

Young swimmers will be talent spotted by their swimming teachers before being assessed by HHSC head coach Alan Doyle.

He said: ‘We are very excited about the new Academy and feel it will help develop more local swimmers.

“Our aim is to help all swimmers fulfil their potential so they can enjoy swimming as part of their lifestyle and compete at a number of levels from local and, hopefully, all the way through to international.”

Jo Bevil-Gahan, Aquaspace manager, added: ‘Sportspace are pleased to see this local initiative launched.

“We will be working closely with the swimming club to help young swimmers move on in the sport.

“Hopefully the grounding our Aquaspace Learn to Swim Program gives them will stand them in good stead for the future.”
