The Hemel Hempstead District Netball League is raising funds for the Stand Up To Cancer charity in memory of a well loved member of the league.

Chris Weston passed away from lung cancer in the summer after years of dedicated service as both a player and an umpire.

And Hemel Hempstead District Netball League chairman Sarah McClement says she is delighted that the league could do something to honour Chris.

“Chris was playing netball this time last year and she is much missed by her family and friends and by all her team-mates at netball,” said Sarah.

“I was approached by Camelot Netball Club members Diane Kolonko and Jill Grimwood to see whether the league would support the initiative.

“I’m thrilled that the whole league is supporting this and hope to raise a good sum of money in Chris’s memory.”

A total of 26 teams compete in the league and fixtures are played on Saturdays at Adeyfield School.

During the two-week fundraising period, clubs are donating 20p per goal scored in games. Sarah has set up a Just Giving page at to enable donations to be made online.

Camelot held a fun netball tournament last month and raised £241, half of which was donated to Cancer Research.
