Another solid performance from the Tring men’s first XI secured the first win of the new season and a 46th consecutive unbeaten league match.
In a rousing game for the spectators, Tring held the ball well and dominated for long periods, while Bicester’s counter-attacks kept them in the hunt.
At 4-1 up, Tring looked to have the game in the bag, but a series of late mistakes gifted Bicester two late goals and Tring eventually had to scramble to hold on.
Meanwhile, Tring men’s 2s dominated the opening 20 minutes, but could not a way through a stubborn Oxford defence.
The away team capitalised on some slack marking midway through the half to take the lead against the run of play, but Tring hit back just before the break, with Jon Brewer scoring from a short corner.
The second half was an even affair, but Oxford scored 10 minutes from the end to consign Tring to a 2-1 defeat.
Tring men’s 3s enjoyed a flying start to the 2015/16 season, with a solid 3-2 over Maidenhead in their opening league match.
This week’s team consisted of some new faces and eight rising stars from the club’s academy section, with George Evans making his senior team debut. Goals were shared between Owen Hillair-Brady, Ian ‘Eric’ Grainger and Cian Jamieson.
Elsewhere, the ladies 1s travelled to Broxbourne and shared a 10-goal thriller. Currently adjusting to a new system they played some outstanding hockey and were duly rewarded with plenty of goals and a 5-5 draw.
Emily Hogan continued her scoring streak, along with Ellie Murphy and Shrina Patel, while Jenny Wrench scored twice.
Playing at home this week, Tring ladies 2s put up a strong fight against Bishop’s Stortford III and a 4-0 loss did not reflect the play at all. The player of the match was Bea Park, who was everywhere on the pitch, while Erin Crane made her club debut.
