Following the success of its Learn to Run course, Gade Valley Harriers running club has launched an intermediate running group.
The group is for those who can run four to five miles at a steady 10-12 minute mile pace and would like to run with others.
The sessions are held with the rest of the Harriers on Tuesdays and Thursdays and give the runners the chance not only to run with others, but also to work on their speed, technique and endurance.
The whole group runs ‘rep’ sessions on a Tuesday to work on speed and strength. The intermediates are using Thursday sessions to build up their distance.
Gade Valley Harriers coach Edward Price said: “We have launched an intermediate running group to cater for newer runners at our weekly sessions.
“It’s important to us that we cater for everyone, so as well as attracting strong runners we also want to help those who are new to the sport or who feel they could improve.
“We hope that the intermediate group will feel inspired when running as part of our friendly club.”
Georgia Thomas, who joined the club as a beginner in May and who has since joined the intermediate group added: “When I joined the club I struggled to run for a minute without stopping to walk; I can’t believe that just three months later I can run over four miles without stopping.”
She continued: “My sister has been running for five years; 18 months with the Harriers. She often talks about personal bests and marathon training and I never thought I’d be doing the same, but now I can see how she has got the running bug.”
Ed concluded: “If anyone is thinking they’d like to join our intermediate group but doesn’t think they could run for four miles, we recommend downloading a ‘couch to 5km’ type course or similar from the internet and once completed we hope you would be able to join.”
