BERKHAMSTED and Hemel Hempstead Hockey Club got back to competitive action at the weekend following the festive break.

The First Team travelled to Winchmore Hill and Enfield to start the new calendar year and came away with a hard-fought 2-2 draw.

Berko took the lead through captain Barron, but the hosts equalised just before half-time.

The second half started evenly, but Winchmore Hill went in front after some poor Berko defending.

The game looked lost for Berko, but Allam popped up just before the end to slam home from a short corner and rescue a draw.

The Second Team, meanwhile, suffered a 6-2 defeat to their Winchmore Hill opponents.

Despite goals from Cramer and Payton, Berko were thoroughly outplayed and are still in search of their first win of the season.

And the Fourth Team also suffered a heavy defeat as they went down 7-2 to Bedford Vets despite goals from Richard Peachey and Andy Prentice.
