ALTHOUGH small in number, Hertfordshire’s Berkhamsted and Tring-based Chiltern Harriers made a big impact at the Hertfordshire Track and Field Championships in Watford.

Competing in the 1500m for the U17 men were Jack Quoroll and Matt Simpson – Matt’s huge effort gaining him a PB.

Meanwhile, U15 runner Jonty Wager-Leigh took excellent fourth and second places in the 1500m and 800m, respectively, in PB times.

In his first year as an U15, Sam Howell gained a PB, and James Lloyd finished first in the 400m.

It was also a fantastic championship for U13 all-rounder Jake Alderson – he achieved a PB in the 800m, won the 75m hurdles and went on to jump 1.35m to gain second place in the high jump.

Elsewhere, Hannah Morton (U15) and Sophie Morton (U13) stamped their authority on the 1500m races to win gold medals and achieve PBs.

They went on to compete in the 800m and Hannah took to the field to perform well in the high jump.

There were also top displays from other Chiltern Harrier girls, as Claire Baxter ran a PB in the U15 girls’ 1500m and 800m races.

For the U13 girls, Emily Bannister and Emily Baxter ran strongly in the 800m, while Scarlett Wager-Leigh took fourth in 1500m U13 event.

To round off a superb weekend of athletics, the U13 girls’ relay team of Abi Jones, Beccy Jones, Sophie Morton and Baxter brought home bronze medals.
