THE future looks bright for basketball starlet Francesca Quinn as she prepares to take her place at an elite basketball camp in the USA.
The 15-year-old won her place at the camp in Syracuse, New York, after impressing at the Wodson Park Annual Basketball Day Camp.
She is only the fifth girl in 23 years to take the coveted prize.
“It’s a dream come true,” said the youngster from Heath Close in Hemel Hempstead.
“It is my dream to go to America for a university scholarship.”
And Francesca could well be on the way to fulfilling her ambition, should she impress at the camp.
“The four previous girls who have gone to the camp have all got scholarships,” she said. “I hope to be a pro – I love basketball so much and to be paid for doing it would be amazing.”
The Herts Warriors star will either take her place at the camp in June next year, or in June 2013, depending on her GCSE exam timetable. In the meantime, Francesca is focusing on securing her place in the England squad for next summer’s U16 European Championships.
And she has a clear message to anyone who may dream of following in her footsteps.
She said: “Commitment is a really big thing if you want to achieve and get to the top level – you have to be willing to put in the hours.”
