Kezia Buckley and Graham Fish were crowned Leverstock Green Tennis Club singles champions as the Winter Singles competition reached its climax.
Buckley, 17, beat 14-year-old Tessa Cawley in the final of the ladies’ competition, while head coach Fish saw off 15-year-old Carl Pearce to take the men’s honours.
The winner of the ladies’ Plate tournament was Sarah Bell, 31, while 25-year-old Richard Havenga won the men’s Plate. Isobel Lane and Ryan O’Sullivan were the beaten finalists.
Meanwhile, the Leverstock Green U12 and U14 teams will be attending the Herts Junior Awards Evening at Welwyn Lawn Tennis Club later this month to collect their Herts Summer League 2013 winners’ trophies.
Both teams were also the Herts Aegon winners for the 2013 season, meaning Leverstock Green recorded a clean sweep of victories across these age groups.
The U12 team was made up of Alfie Rushton, Archie Keneally, Bradly Tobin and Michael Ochser, while the U14s consisted of Adam Poole, Addison Petri, Carl Pearce, Daniel and Joseph Graham.
The Herts Summer and Aegon Leagues are just two of the competitions which will get under way at the end of the month and there are various other competitions in which Leverstock Green will be competing over the summer.
The club is in the enviable position of having an extremely strong girls’ section – whereas most sporting clubs are losing their teenage girls, Leverstock Green are actually increasing numbers.
The club boasts a Friday squad with 22 girls between 12 and 17 years of age, while the coaching team includes a wealth of youngsters including Holly Cottingham, Katie Dalmon, Jack Evans, Georgia Andre, Kirsty Cawley, Buckley and Lane.
