The Herts Falcons enjoyed a perfect day in the National Baseball League, triumphing twice over the previously unbeaten London Mets to move joint-top f the National Baseball League.
The Falcons have now won five games on the spin, having battled back to form following a disappointing three-game losing run.
The streak-breaking win was an extra-innings contest and then the subsequent four victories – none of which has been of a margin greater than two runs – have come against their two main divisional rivals.
Falcons manager Lee Manning was delighted with the victories, saying: “We had fantastic pitching, fantastic defence, and good timely hitting once again.”
The Herts and London second teams were also doing battle at the weekend, but it was London Mets II who got the better of Herts Ravens in the AAA South division.
The result sees the Ravens slip to a record of one win and nine losses so far this year, but they continue to improve in their first season together.
Elsewhere, the Herts Eagles struggled against the visiting Richmond Dukes, eventually falling 37–9 at Grovehill Ballpark.
However, there was a 30-12 victory for the Herts Raptors against Essex Redbacks III.
On the youth side, Herts Baseball Club is actively encouraging boys and girls aged 6 to 16 to sign up for Little League World Series.
