Berkhamsted athlete Ella Beaumont delivered an impressive performance to help the University of Worcester win the inaugural University Wheelchair Basketball Championships.
Ella, 18 – a Great Britain international who is currently in the first year of her Sports Coaching Science with Disability Studies degree – began playing the sport around five years ago for Milton Keynes Aces.
At the recent Championships, five universities from across the country came together to compete in what is a sport growing in popularity.
It is hoped that the sport will continue to flourish among higher education institutions.
Ella said: “The University Championships were a huge step forward for wheelchair basketball.
“It gives us the chance to further raise the awareness of disability sport, and gives disabled and able-bodied people the opportunity to try something new.
“It’s important that wheelchair basketball continues to grow at university level, as it helps disabled athletes in both a sporting and a social sense, and it helps to create awareness of disabilities.
“I’m looking forward to seeing what the future holds for the University Championships.”
