Dacorum’s Seishinkai Shotokan Karate International club sent three competitors to the prestigious Irish Open Karate Championships in Dublin – and two of the three came back with medals.
Adam Cockfield, 32, a 5th Dan black-belt, won the men’s black-belt kata (forms) division in real style and in the kumite (free-fighting) just lost out to the Irish champion in a very close run final.
In his first overseas outing, young Dylan Freeman, 13, finished third in the boys’ senior kumite and fourth in the boys’ senior kata event.
The third competitor, 26-year-old James Baldwin also did well but narrowly missed out on the medals.
SSKI chief instructor Malcolm Phipps 8th Dan said he was extremely pleased with all of the competitors.
