Cup action for the Hemel Hempstead Table Tennis League sides

The Hemel Hempstead Table Tennis League representatives turned their attention to knock-out action for the quarter-finals of the Wren Cup and the Wren Plate .

In the Cup, KLCC I defeated Row by 28 points, Adeyfield I beat Crown & Sceptre C by a similar margin, and St Michaels I beat Adeyfield A by 99 points. Adeyfield C received a bye.

Meanwhile in the Plate, Crown & Sceptre B are the only Division One team left in the competition as they squeezed past their D team by six points.

The three other semi-finalists are all from Division Three, thanks to wins for St Georges, Flamstead C and Northchurch A.

Back in league action, Division One leaders Crown & Sceptre I had a set-back as they lost 6-4 to second-placed Adeyfield I, for whom Mike Boardman bagged a maximum.

Crown bounced back with a 9-1 win over Row as Marc Lyons and Alan Thomas claimed maximums.

Row then found winning form by trouncing Crown & Sceptre B 10-0 and Flamstead I 7-3. Paul Jolly led the way with two trebles.

Meanwhile, Division Two leaders St Michaels I continued to sweep all before them with an 8-2 victory over KLCC I thanks to a Marc Brent maximum.

KLCC then won 9-1 against Flamstead B with Richard Balland and Phil Hardy gaining maximums.

Division Three saw St Michaels whitewash KLCC A 10-0, while second-placed McAlpines A had consecutive 6-4 wins over St Georges and Northchurch A – with Youguang Pan achieving a double maximum.

Northchurch A battled to a narrow 6-4 triumph over St Georges despite Chris Ward hitting a maximum for the losers.

Elsewhere, the Closed Championships have been taking place over the last few weeks and the winners were: Open Singles - Michael Boardman; Open Doubles - Ken Stonebridge and Alan Thomas; Vets- Stonebridge; Supervets - Stonebridge; Division Two - Martin Livesey; Division Three - Trevor McFarlane; Handicap - Mariusz Puczynski; Ladies’ Singles - Bronwen Watson; Ladies’ Doubles - Marion Kipping and Claire McLaren; Mixed Doubles - Watson and Terry Mason; Random Doubles - Watson and Chris Ward.
