GOLF: Tom Butler has been crowned the new Junior Champion at Little Hay after two days of intense competition.

Played over two rounds of 18 holes, the championship provided a good test of skill and was decided by the best gross score.

Six players finished within six shots of each other, but it was Butler who took the crown with a total of 180 shots. Alex Dukes (181) and Andrew Varney (182) finished second and third, respectively.

The winner of the Junior Cup with the best net score, meanwhile, was Jamie McIvor.

His 124 was enough to see off the challenges of Jack Lindsay (127) and Andrew Varney (138).

In other action at the club, 70 players from all sections met - under the eye of president Jenny Williams - to play in the annual President’s Day competition.

Overall men’s winner and recipient of the President’s Putter was Glen Mason with 40 points. Ben Alford’s 38 points was good enough for second place.

Ladies’ winner was Pam Kirk (37 points) and runner-up was Pauline Manning (36), while Butler again triumphed in the junior event.

Elsewhere, the ladies held their annual Captains Day.

Overall winner was Jackie Joslyn (40 points) ahead of Lesley O’Brien and Sylivia Lutt, both with 38 points.

Division One of the senior men’s September Medal was won by Graham Cracknell, while Vic Allen was triumphant in Division Two.
