Team Dacorum battled hard to return home with a handful of medals from the Herts Youth Games 2013.
Fierce competition took place under equally fierce sunshine when 1,400 young athletes aged from U9 to U19 took part in the ten different indoor and outdoor sports at Wodson Park Sports Centre.
And the Dacorum youngsters did the borough proud as they won the gold medal for badminton, silver for golf, table tennis and fencing, and bronze in netball.
The badminton side, in particular, were a credit to Dacorum as they swept aside the rest of the competition under the guidance of coaches Carol Gahan and Jo Bevil-Gahan.
The Herts Youth Games is an annual event organised with support from the Herts Sports Partnership and Sportspace. It aims to showcase all that is good about youngsters participating and competing in sport.
Organiser of the Dacorum team, Gemma Roake from Sportspace, Dacorum Sports Trust, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many youngsters taking part in competitive sport.
“The Herts Youth Games aims to attract semi-sporty young people to competitive sport and inspire them to want to compete at higher levels.
“Now in its 19th year, the games could not happen without the voluntary support of many sports clubs and individuals.”
