The world’s biggest free spectator event, the Tour de France, has recently visited our shores and once again highlighted the incredible growth in the popularity and participation in cycling in Britain.
And while the Tour de France may not have visited the Chilterns, the Tour of Britain will be traversing the Chiltern Hills on stage 6 from Bath to Hemel Hempstead on Friday, September 12.
So it’s a perfect time to join in the fun and get out riding on one of the many free activities Cycle Chilterns will be organising throughout the summer months.
For the kids, there’s Bikeability training and mountain bike skills courses taking place at various locations during the summer holidays.
For adults there are Health Rides, Ladies Only Rides, Brewery and Vineyard Rides, and more.
For those in between, there are off-road rides on offer from many of the local cycling groups including a series of beginner rides with CTC’s BucksMTB group.
There are also a number of Dr Bike sessions taking place in towns across the Chilterns along with one-off events such as cyclists breakfasts and barbecues.
If you don’t want to join an organised ride or a group, there are plenty of route ideas and places to visit listed on the Cycle Chilterns website.
