A group of 12 boys have beaten off the competition from more than 100 other youngsters to claim their places in the Dacorum District U11 football team for the 2013/14 season.
Around 120 Year 6 children from primary schools in Dacorum have taken part in football trials over the past few months, with Kofi Cripps, Harry McHugh, David Saunders, Louie Potton, Harry Bailey, Cian Marum, Josh Rembalski, Matheos Maneli, Alfie Williams, Max Delyfer, Matthew Ellis and Adam Baldwin selected for the final squad.
The team will represent Dacorum in the Hertfordshire District League, Shires Cup, ESFA National Schools 7-a-side Tournament and the Southern Counties Cup.
Co-manager Stuart Stedman said: “We are delighted with the quality of players we have this season.
“We feel that this group of boys could have a highly successful season and hopefully they can win some of the more prestigious competitions.”
Since the selection of the team, Dacorum have made a flying start to the season, beating Potters Bar District 4-1 in both the Hertfordshire League and Shires Cup.
They then thrashed Swindon District 4-0 in the quarter-finals of the Shires Cup and recorded a confident 2-0 win against Harpenden District.
As well as this, they have retained their Hertfordshire Inter District 7-a-side title by winning all six of their games in the competition.
Dacorum will now go on to represent Hertfordshire in the South East of England Regional Finals in February.
Co-manager Luke Nicholls said: “I truly believe we have group of players that are capable of winning the South East of England Finals in order to qualify for the National Finals.
“Stuart and I have set the boys the target of reaching the National Finals. Although this is an ambitious target, we believe we have a squad with enough quality to do this and make history for Dacorum and Hertfordshire.”
