AFC Dunstable 3 Leverstock Green 1

LAST year’s Premier Division Cup runners-up Leverstock Green have been knocked out of the competition at the first hurdle.

Flying high in the league, Green went into the game full of confidence but could not see off a determined AFC Dunstable side who eventually ran out 3-1 winners.

Levy boss Steve Heath made a number of changes to the side which had beaten Biggleswade United four days previously, and the visitors got off to a promising start as Dan Griggs and Paul Insley both came close early on.

It was hosts Dunstable who opened the scoring, though, as Craig Butler slotted home past Levy keeper Gareth Tinsley after 10 minutes.

The lead was doubled 16 minutes later courtesy of Adam Reid, but Levy hit back through a scrappy Craig Preston effort.

Green piled forward in search of an equaliser and Preston came agonisingly close to restoring parity as his shot whistled over the bar.

Two minutes before half-time, however, Graeme Buchanan struck the killer blow for Dunstable as he restored the two-goal cushion.

Levy tried to get back into the game after the interval, but it was not to be for the visitors who will now have to turn elsewhere in their quest for silverware.
