Leverstock Green were very unlucky to come away from their Holiday Monday fixture against Holmer Green with nothing as deflected free-kick in the second half was enough to decide the game in favour of visitors.
There were few chances in a first half where both sides defended well.
The first near miss of the game came in the 43rd minute when Sam Clark hit a fine effort from distance which was dipping, but not enough to go under the bar.
In stoppage time at the other end, a free-kick from Dean Allen was deflected wide by the wall, and from the resulting corner Allen hit the bar.
The second half was similarly tight. On 56 minutes Curtis Donaldson made a determined run at goal and hit a shot just over the bar. Two minutes later in the best Leverstock move of the game, Donaldson had a free header from a Jack Gilmartin cross but couldn’t direct it on target.
Throughout the game it looked as though one goal would decide it, and that goal came 13 minutes from time.
A foul on Allen gave Holmer a free-kick centrally-placed just outside the penalty area, and Allen’s kick took a deflection of the wall and went in off the post.
That proved to be enough for the visitors to take all three points, and the Leverstock side now turn their attention to this Saturday’s home game against London Tigers.
