Kings Langley Ladies kicked off their league campaign with a hard-fought win in blustery conditions at Welwyn.

Kings went on the attack from the start, with Nicole Barrett, Sam Walters and Jess Earthrowl looking dangerous down the wings.

And Kings duly took the lead after seven minutes when debutante Mary Hogan cut in and curled her shot past the keeper and into the net.

Full of confidence, further attempts were fired in from Alex Britten and Barrett, before Kim Nield doubled the lead on 18 minutes.

Nield broke free on the left, and smashed the ball past the keeper into the far corner.

Nield grabbed her second of the game just before the half-hour mark, latching on to a through-ball from midfield, nipping through the defence and taking on the keeper before slotting home.

The second half saw the Langley defence stand firm in the face of sustained pressure by Welwyn, before succumbing to a goal just after the hour mark.

However this did not stop Langley, and Barrett, Britten and a superb free-kick from Jade North all went agonisingly close to increasing the visitors’ advantage.

Kings Langley travel to Cranfield United Ladies this Sunday looking to continue their good start to the season.
