Kings Langley Ladies moved up into second place in the league table after winning a tight encounter with Bedmond Ladies.

Kings were quickest out of the blocks, with April Langton and Amy Earthrowl seeing their efforts blocked on the line by the keeper, before Langton broke the deadlock after four minutes with a fierce drive from 25 yards.

Nicole Barrett doubled the lead shortly afterwards as her shot bounced in off the post after the keeper had managed to get her fingertips to it.

Bedmond were given the chance to reduce the deficit from the penalty spot after 17 minutes following an apparent handball, but Kings keeper Vicki Taylor got down to her right to block the shot.

In what became a scrappy half for both sides, Kings got back into the thick of things in search of another goal, but attempts from Sam Walters, Meg Burrows and Kim Nield all stayed out.

The second half saw Kings fire in a couple of early efforts at goal – Nield’s acrobatic attempt hitting the crossbar.

Bedmond then exerted a long spell of pressure, but Kings stood firm to weather the storm and take the three points.

It is a top of the table clash for Kings on Sunday as they entertain leaders Bishop Stortford Town Ladies at Dacorum Running Track.
