Hemel Hempstead Town continued their 100 per cent record in pre-season as they ground out a 1-0 win at National League North side Brackley Town.
The winning goal came on 55 minutes when centre-forward Ollie Hawkins latched on to a defensive error and fired a shot from home from just inside the box.
It was another good workout for Dean Brennan’s side and extended their winning pre-season run to four games ; a sequence in which they have also kept four clean sheets.
Hemel started the game well and hit the post in the opening couple of minutes, before Hawkins just failed to make contact with the ball following good play from Jamie Slabber and Dennis Oli.
Brackley had a few half-chances of their own, but the Tudors could have gone in front in the 37th minute when Matty Harriott fired an effort straight at the keeper from the edge of the box.
Hemel started the second half well, and a neat interchange between Oli and Slabber saw the latter force a good stop from the Brackley keeper.
Slabber was again in the thick of the action on 52 minutes as he saw his shot palmed away by the home stopper, but Hemel were not to be denied three minutes later.
Brackley got themselves in a muddle at the back, and Hawkins was on hand to pounce and fire the Tudors into a 1-0 lead.
Brackley looked to get back into the game and created a couple of decent openings.
The final chance of the game fell to Slabber, but he was unable to force the ball home, and the game ended 1-0 to the Tudors.
Next up for Hemel are friendlies against Arlesey Town and Nuneaton Town later in the week, as the Tudors continue to build momentum into the 2015/16 National league South campaign.
