TRING midfielder Tony Fields took his personal tally for the season to 12 goals as he bagged four – including three penalties – to make it six wins in a row for Athletic. .

Despite winning their previous five league games, a trip to North London to face fourth-placed Haringey Borough looked set to be tricky proposition for an in-form Tring side.

Boro had already beaten Athletic 3-2 on two occasions this season, but Tring – and Fields in particular – exacted revenge in spectacular fashion.

The visitors did not have it all their own way, though, and it was Boro who took the lead from the spot in the 31st minute.

Andy Hughes tripped Roland Namquita in the box, and fellow striker Lloyd Opara had no trouble in dispatching his penalty to put the hosts ahead.

Athletic began to show some attacking intent before the break and finished the half stronger, but when the teams reappeared they were fortunate the deficit wasn’t doubled when Opara struck the crossbar.

Tring’s equaliser arrived in the 55th minute when Sam Joliffe was unable to convert a Connor Smith delivery across the box, only for Fields to pounce on the loose ball.

When Charles Douse was dismissed for denying Tring’s Reon Thomas a goalscoring opportunity, Fields doubled his tally from the spot.

And Fields completed his hat-trick when Daniel Walker was adjudged to have handled the ball in the area after he blocked an attempt with his arms aloft.

The fourth and final goal arrived after good work from left-back Paul Jeffrey.

Boro failed to take heed of his warning shot which drifted just past the post, and when Jeffrey tried his luck for a second time, he was bundled over for Athletic’s third penalty.

Of course, Fields made no mistake from the spot and sent keeper Davos Horvath the wrong way for a third time.

The result leaves Tring in sixth place in the Molten Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division.

They host Oxhey Jets in Saturday’s final game of the season.
