A reshuffled Berko side knocked Oxhey Jets for six on Tuesday night and set up a Guy Fawkes Night clash with AFC Dunstable at home in the next round of the Premier Division Cup.
Comrades boss Mick Vipond was able to recall Carl Tasker, Jack Copson and Steve Hawes to the starting XI and also kept Saturday’s three successful substitutes in the team.
And the high-flying Comrades were quick into their stride as Connor Calcutt hit the bar in an early Berko attack.
Home keeper Craig McCreeth made some outstanding saves throughout the game to keep the score down.
He was finally beaten when Adiel Mannion’s first shot was too hot to hold and his follow up was deflected by promoted reserve captain Jamie Speer into the net.
Adam Lawton hit the post with a free-kick as the Jets tried to get back into the game, but their hopes were dashed by a flurry of goals before the interval.
Mannion doubled the lead with a shot across the keeper into the far corner, before a left wing run from Ashley Morrissey ended with a pass to Calcutt who scored the third goal.
McCreery was even busier in the second half – denying Mead, Calcutt, Copson and Frederick.
Lawton beat a couple of men on the left well inside the penalty area and blasted a shot past Tasker to make it 3-1, and an underhit Bekim Culaj back pass produced a brief scare for Berko.
However, normal service was resumed when a fine pass by Jordon Frederick released Calcutt who netted his second of the game.
Vipond then unleashed Josh Chamberlain, Dale Sears and James Bent from the bench and that led to further goals.
It had looked as if Mead was to be denied all night, but he made sure he got the goal his display had merited by ramming home a Chamberlain shot to make it 5-1.
He then tussled with the Oxhey left-back and was awarded a penalty, which he took himself and slotted home confidently for 6-1.
On Saturday there is an important league game for Berko at mid-table London Colney.
Following that, Berko travel to Division One side Sun Postal Sports in the Challenge Trophy on Tuesday.
The Berkhamsted Reserves, meanwhile, have a Suburban League match at home to Northwood Reserves on Saturday followed by a league trip to Barton Rovers on Monday.
The U18s are at Kings Langley in the Olympian Division tonight and go to Uxbridge in the FA Youth Cup next Wednesday.
