Hemel Town 1 Chippenham Town 1
HEMEL Town moved to within six points of safety after they were held to a 1-1 draw with Chippenham Town at Vauxhall Road on Tuesday night.
The Tudors dominated large periods of the first half and went in front through Nabil Shariff, however the hosts were denied all three points by a 79th minute Chippenham equaliser.
Hemel will take heart from the performance though, and will believe that they have enough quality to stage a late foray up the league table. Four points in as many days has certainly helped the cause.
Leading scorer Dave Pearce was again the bright spark for the Tudors, and he came close early on with a stinging shot from distance.
The Hemel winger had another good chance soon afterwards, but he could only fire straight at Chippenham keeper Tommy Smith.
Keiron Schmidt and Nick Beasant both sent shots wide for Hemel, while James Guthrie was off target at the other end.
However, on the stroke of half-time, the Tudors were finally rewarded for their dominance with the opening goal.
Schmidt saw his effort come back off the crossbar, and Ross Lafayette was on hand to pick up the rebound and feed Shariff, who gratefully slotted home.
Chippenham improved after the interval, though, and Toby Osman came close to netting an equaliser.
The visitors continued to search for a leveller as the half went on, and they finally restored parity with 10 minutes to go.
James Guthrie’s cross from the left caused havoc in the Hemel area, and Nathan Rudge poked home to ensure the game ended all square.
