Pupils from Yewtree Primary School in Hemel Hempstead were the first to see the building site for The Forum in the town centre.
Set to open in early 2017 the purpose-built, energy-efficient building will bring different community services together under one roof including Dacorum Borough Council and the library.
More than 20 Year 1 pupils were given a tour of the building site by project manager David Fenwick and builder R G Carter’s mascot Eric.
The pupils were given the chance to ask plenty of questions about building and construction, which is their topic for the term.
One pupil asked: “Why are we building The Forum?” and David replied: “It’s to make Hemel Hempstead a better place for the people living here, who will benefit from a modern building that will be available to use by the whole community.”
Class Teacher, Danielle Blaxley, said: “This was a great opportunity for the children to learn about the tools and machinery used in construction, to visit a working site and see how it all works.
“We can’t wait to come back next year and see the difference a few months can make.”
R G Carter has invited pupils from Yewtree Primary to take park in a poster design competition to showcase importance of building site health and safety.
The winners will be displayed on the hoarding around the site next year.
