Woman arrested after Facebook appeal to catch 52-year-old’s ‘attacker’

The daughter of a 52-year-old woman who was pushed to the floor and punched in the face last night hopes Facebook could help bring her attackers to justice.

She posted about the attack on the Everything Berko page of the social networking website not long after it happened outside her mother’s house near Tesco Express, Northchurch, at 6pm.

After explaining the details of what had happened, two separate people identified the alleged attacker.

Police today arrested a 42-year-old woman from Berkhamsted on suspicion of assault and she is now in police custody.

Spokesman Giles Cooper said: “Police are investigating an alleged assault that is reported to have occurred around 6.10pm on Sunday, May 11, in Northchurch High Street.

“There was an altercation, which was reportedly over a parking dispute, between two women and it is alleged one woman assaulted the other.

“The investigation is on-going and anyone with information in relation to the incident should contact Hertfordshire Constabulary via the non-emergency number 101, citing crime reference D2/14/377.

“Alternatively call Crimestoppers, the independent charity, anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The victim – who is blind in one eye – was left with a cut lip, bleeding around her mouth and smashed glasses after the assault. She will not be able to see until her glasses are fixed.

Her daughter – who asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals – said her mother is shocked and now recovering.
