WE go back to the 1980s next week as The Wedding Singer, a hilarious original musical based on the award-winning film, comes to the Court Theatre in Tring for a three day run.

It’s 1985 and life and soul of the party Robbie Hart is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer.

But then his own fiancée leaves him at the altar and a heartbroken Robbie decides to make every other wedding as disastrous as his own.

Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. However, she’s about to be married to a Wall Street shark and will be gone forever unless Robbie can pull off the performance of the decade.

In this Aylesbury Vale Youth Theatre production 20-year-old Haden Spence plays the man himself while Hannah Veysey, 21, is Julia.

Now in its sixth year, AVYT is a free summer programme for 16 to 21-year-olds interested in any aspect of theatre – whether it’s acting, choreography or lighting design.

Founded by four friends from local secondary schools the group now has more than 100 members.

AVYT presents The Wedding Singer at the Court Theatre in Tring from Thursday, August 16 to Saturday, August 18 at 7.30pm with an additional Saturday matinee at 2.30pm.
