VEHICLE owners are being warned to be vigilant after an increase in car crime across the borough.

Statistics from Neighbourhood Watch show 72 vehicle crime offences took place during the first three weeks of April – 18 more than for the same period last year.

Police say most offences involve theft of property from inside cars, including satnavs and cash on display.

Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins said: “Our Intervention Team officers are on 24/7 patrol and the Safer Neighbourhood Teams across Dacorum provide an effective deterrent against thieves, but they cannot be everywhere.

“Motorists need to help us keep crime down by ensuring their vehicles are always locked when parked and nothing is left on display.”

Suspicious activity like people loitering by cars can be reported by calling police non-emergency number 101.
