Volunteers dig in to help Food Garden project come into bloom

Thousands of volunteers from 200 firms gave 90,000 hours of their time to good causes on Give & Gain Day – and among them were staff from Hemel Hempstead communications and media firm Arqiva.

The firm, which has offices in Park Lane in the town centre, weighed in to support the nearby Hemel Food Garden site run by the Sunnyside Rural Trust.

Give & Gain Day is a global celebration of the power and potential of employee volunteering involving 26 countries as diverse as Spain, Iran, Nigeria and Guatemala.

The Arqiva team tackled work on the project’s tranquillity garden space, spending the day strimming the overgrown orchard, digging a huge hole for a new pond and planting.

Managing director David Crawford, who was among those taking part, said “It’s great to see 27 people volunteering today and really demonstrates the meaning of Give and Gain Day.

“At the end of the day we’ll be able to see the big difference that we have made here at Sunnyside Rural Trust and that’s very rewarding”.
