A DAY of sporting events in memory of a former parish councillor raised thousands of pounds.
Anne Thompson’s family organised the Dagnall Day At The Races to bring in cash for the Hospice of St Francis.
The mum-of-three died in October last year after a two-year battle against cancer.
During the final months of her life the family discussed how they could raise funds for the hospice that helped care for her.
They have already hosted a disco and race night in Anne’s name and on Saturday around 200 people turned out at the village recreation ground, raising £2,600.
Her daughter-in-law Emma Thompson said: “She would be so proud of everyone pulling together.”
