With No Smoking Day approaching, county health chiefs are urging smokers to consider kicking the habit.
Around 8,000 people are helped to give up by the Herts Stop Smoking Service every year and many get started on No Smoking Day, March 13.
The big step brings many advantages – the biggest is health benefit but quitting can also save a person around £7 a day, which adds up to a whooping £2,555 a year.
Figures show nearly one in six UK adults smoke – including about 170,000 people in Herts – and of these it is believed around two thirds want to give up.
Business manager at the Herts Stop Smoking Service Adam Crowe said: “No Smoking Day provides the perfect opportunity for people to join hundreds of others in Hertfordshire attempting to quit on the same day.
“This is why we are is spreading the word about the support available.
“A trained stop smoking advisor is able to offer a personalised plan to become smokefree. There are over 300 service providers across the county – there will be one near you.”
