THE Rotary Club of Berkhamsted Bulbourne took 18 elderly people from Berkhamsted to the Forties Experience in the grounds of the former Bushey Hall near Watford.
They were shown around the former base for Second World War US army forces during the day out earlier this month.
The original base was demolished in the 1960s – but the outbuildings and Nissen huts around it have been converted into an exhibition of life in the war years.
The buildings are fitted with period decor and furniture and displays of contemporary clothing and military memorabilia including uniforms, weapons, medals and other artefacts.
There is also a Dig For Victory garden complete with air raid Anderson Shelter at the site.
Guest Margaret Prosser said: “It was so lovely to see all the old things. We all enjoyed a very interesting afternoon thanks to the Rotarians.”
