Hemel Hempstead Town FC have been crowned champions of Hertfordshire after beating Potters Bar Town 2-0 in the Hertfordshire FA Senior Challenge Cup final.
Two goals in two minutes from Dave Pearce and Danny May got the job done for the Tudors and ensured that Hemel see their name on the trophy for the first time.
“It was a good win and I think our quality told in the end,” said Tudors manager Dean Brennan.
“We were solid and controlled the game quite well.
“At the business end of the season it’s all about winning matches. By hook or by crook, we’ve just got to make sure we win them.”
It was an entertaining game on Tuesday night, with both teams creating chances in the early stages.
Tudors striker Matt Nolan dragged a shot wide when clean through on goal, while Anthony Maissiat saw his looping header clip the top of the crossbar.
Potters Bar looked lively at the other end, but their strikers squandered a number of good openings with some wayward shooting.
Hemel pressed for the opener at the end of the first half, but the breakthrough finally came after the interval when Charlie Mpi’s acrobatic effort was well saved – allowing Pearce to nip in and fire home the rebound.
And the second goal followed just one minute later as May fired in a trademark free-kick to seal the win and secure the trophy for the impressive Tudors.
