Step this way for a bargain - Hemel Hempstead charity shop’s footwear windfall

If the kids need new shoes and you’re looking for a bargain, then make a beeline for the DENS charity shop in Hemel Hempstead this week.

The charity which helps the homeless has been given a donation of 200 pairs of brand new children’s shoes including top end names like Clarks, Kickers and Timberland.

Prices start at just £7.99 and the windfall includes a big mixture of different sizes as well as some ladies shoes.

But that’s just a small part of what’s on offer at the bargain base in Paradise, a short step from the main Marlowes shopping area.

Books, clothes and bric-a-brac are all in stock, and you can also pick up larger household items in the new furniture warehouse.

Retail development manager Lyn Robertson said: “We’re absolutely thrilled about this. A lady got in touch and was looking to donate them, so we gladly accepted.

“We hope to receive more donations of this type in the future – it would be fantastic.”

DENS provides a range of services to single homeless people including a night shelter, day centre, move-on accommodation and rent aid which can be of a huge help to those in need.

They also give furniture and household goods to any service users moving into new accommodation and sell the remaining items to make funds for the charity.

On Saturday, June 29, there’s a launch day for the furniture warehouse to welcome customers, raise awareness and gain exposure.

There will be free tea, coffee and parking for those who pop by, as well as the opportunity to browse around a large selection of affordable goods.

The shop and furniture warehouse will be open from 10am-2pm on launch day – and is open the same hours during the week.

Lyn said: “Homelessness is a big issue in Dacorum and a lot of people aren’t aware of that.

“We help hundreds, sometimes thousands of people through the night shelter, day centre and food bank, and now I can help people by offering great low value goods to help their budget go further.”

DENS is always in need of more volunteers keen to lend a helping hand within the charity.
